GMAT Sentence Correction #236 #256

Hi Zeyu,

For the answer A
I know “trained to…” is an idiom but don’t know why there is “to help + verb”
I googled and found an explanation:" Help is a special verb in that way - the to is usually dropped from an infinitive when it is modifying help. This form of infinitive is called the bare infinitive, such as can, will, shall…"
is that correct explanation for this case?

Could you explain why the answer is E? I feel so confused about this sentence structure.

Thank you so much Zeyu

help (to) do something, that is correct

256 is a difficult question:
try to avoid using too many propositions together, which can easily trigger grammatical ambiguity:

A: wrote…the great eruption of V in two letters to the historian Tacitus, “in two letters” seems to modify “V” rather than “wrote” as it is far away.

B. being + n WRONG
C. “writing to the historian” is used to modify P the Elder, indicating that he continuously or repetitively writes the letter- illogical.
D. 2 “account” is redundant
